Rear Extension, Internal Remodelling & Renovation

The property is a 1930s semi-detached house with an existing mock-Victorian conservatory that was fully glazed and set on a raised foundation to offer fantastic panoramic views to the garden and South Ealing Cemetery beyond. However, due to its poor thermal performance, it had to be a separate structure from the main house thus limiting its useful function.

Our brief was to transform the existing conservatory into a highly insulated contemporary extension of the kitchen to provide a new dining and sitting area with views overlooking the garden.

We explored a number of design options, carefully balancing costs with the proposed form and extent of glazing. By choosing a light-weight timber framed structure, we were able to reuse the existing conservatory foundation to minimise cost and waste.

Large triple glazed elements were strategically placed to maximise views and daylight whilst minimising heat gains in the summer.

Dealing with Patrick was really easy right from the start through to the end.

The project was broken down into clear stages from our first initial meeting to handing over. He provided mood boards to steer the design choices, and explored various designs options with virtual walkthrough of how the new extensions would look like externally and internally. Each option was then accompanied by a budget guide of how much it would cost to help me decide on the most balanced option which was really useful.
